URBAN RETREAT

CONDO REMODEL

LOCATION: LONG BEACH, CA

Our client approached us with a desire to remodel her downtown Long Beach condo. Although she was in San Francisco at the time, she wanted the condo to reflect her personal style before her relocation. She entrusted us with the design and coordination with contractors to transform the space.

She envisioned a blend of modern, rustic, and industrial elements, aiming for the ambiance of a boutique hotel—moody yet inviting. We discussed dark walls and ceilings contrasted by light furniture pieces, a direction she was keen to pursue.

In the kitchen, we opted for floor-to-ceiling cabinetry to maximize storage while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. We used two different cabinet colors to break up the space and add visual interest, avoiding a monolithic look. For the backsplash, we chose a tone-on-tone ombre tile in gray, creating a subtle yet dramatic effect that draws the eye upward to the tall ceilings.

The kitchen island features a waterfall edge, and above the range, we designed a rectangular hood with brass embellishments, blending luxury with an industrial touch. Simple, modern pendants were selected to maintain a cohesive flow. The counter stools, with their ebony wood finish and brass detailing, added a light contrast.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the living room, where we continued the theme of light furniture. A rounded sectional was chosen to float in the space, softening the room and serving as a focal point. A large, asymmetrical wooden coffee table was placed in the center to add warmth, paired with a rustic traditional rug that introduces vintage elements and a pop of red and magenta. A camel-toned leather accent chair further enhances the warmth and ties the space together.

Overall, we aimed to create a space that seamlessly blends modern and rustic elements, making it both moody and inviting, just as our client envisioned.
